Day 10 Post-Op

The doctor gave us some pretty sucky news this morning while making his daily rounds. He told us that Kevins white blood cell count had gone up significantly and that he may have another infection. He had a fever last night as well, so the doc ordered another CT scan of his abdomen to check for infection and to take a look at the fluid thats draining from there. Well, the sucky news is that Kevin may be in the hospital the better part of another week. He was hoping to be released tomorrow, but he is still not eating or drinking anything by mouth (except the CT contrast fluid this afternoon), so that in itself is a setback. One good thing though--in order to get a good image on the CT scan, Kevin was required to drink 2 very large glasses of contrast fluid (spiked with Crystal Light fruit punch for flavor). I'm proud to say he drank them both and only got nauseous one time! That was the most fluid he was able to drink by mouth since he got here! Dr Smith is going to be really happy that Kevin was able to hold that much fluid down. Maybe they will try (again) to put him back on an all fluid diet. He is still getting the nutrients by I.V. so he isnt losing any weight or anything. *sigh* hopefully this time the diet sticks and he can graduate to solid foods....
This morning I went home to wait for our new mattress to arrive! The delivery people were right on time, and we now have a beautiful new mattress on our bed!! I wanted to get some housework done while I was waiting, but I laid on the couch and relaxed instead lol. I really should have started the process of getting the house ready for my MIL and Aunt in law's upcoming visit this weekend. I really hope Kevin is out of the hospital by then!
The rest of our afternoon was spent hanging out, napping lol, and Kevin had a CT scan done. Hopeing tomorrow brings good news! :)
