Pre-Surgery appointment

This morning was....interesting. I originally planned to go to spin class and zumba this morning, so I got up and had breakfast, then made my way upstairs to get changed. Literally as I was picking out my clothes for the gym, Kevin got a call from his doctor asking us to come in 4 hours before our originally scheduled appointment (which was at 2:15pm). So we stopped by the hospital on Schofield to get some blood drawn, then headed over to Tripler to make the (new) 10am appointment. The appointment was really informative! Heres whats going to happen on Thursday: Kevin will go under the knife and the doctors will be taking about 80% of his pancreas out, plus his spleen, and possibly his gallbladder (depending on what that little growth is all about). To answer your question, yes, he can live a completely normal life without most of his pancreas, his spleen, and his gallbladder. Because the lesions were found on multiple parts of his pancreas, the doc has decided to take the majority of it out. It is a major surgery, and poor Kevin will be out of commission for at least 2-4 weeks, but not really feeling 100% for 6-8 weeks. He will be in the hospital for about a week or more, depending on how well he does healing-wise. Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers, he is really nervous about this surgery, and can you blame him?? He is going to be in alot of pain. I hope this surgery corrects his calcium rise, because I really want him to start feeling better!!! I'm going to make every effort to keep you guys informed, so pray my wireless card gets signal in the hospital!!
After the appointment, we headed to Buffalo Wild Wings (my idea ;) ), and I proceeded to demolish 18 wings. Yeah, 18. Guess I was hungrier than I thought! No, its not what youre thinking, I eat more right before that time of the month, so its nothing unusual. I made up for it by going to kickboxing AND spin class tonight though! While I was getting my workout on, Kevin was at home steamcleaning the man room. We rented a steam cleaner today, and we are hoping to get the whole house done by tomorrow afternoon.
Tomorrow morning, we have an appointment with the anesthetist bright and early. Basically, he or she will be going over the "itinerary" of Thursdays events, start to finish. They will be briefing Kevin on the anesthesia procedure as well. I've had these appointments before, for all of my hip surgeries and my back surgery, so Im sure they will go over most of the same kind of stuff. Kevins surgery is set to start at 7:30am, so we have to be there by 6:30. The surgery will last approximately 2-3 hours, depending on how stubborn his pancreas is being, and whether or not the docs decide to take out his gallbladder. I will have more info tomorrow though!
Have a good night everyone, and I will keep you posted!
